Karen Osterberg & Terry Fougere

Karen & Terry.jpg

We are Karen R. Osterberg (KRO’s) and Terry Fougere, a wife and husband team. Karen has been a chef for the past 20 years in several restaurants, country clubs and event facilities with her most recent post, leading the event teams at Webber Restaurant Group since 2005.

Karen has had a dream of owning a small restaurant and after looking at several dozen properties had given up on the idea until mid-2018.  One fateful summer day, she received a message from her dear high school friend Shelley, stating that the old Country Mischief property (a small breakfast/lunch cafe that also sold beautiful antiques and crafts in a 200+ year old brick colonial home) was on the market.   Karen tricked Terry into thinking they were going out for breakfast, and well, long story short, they sold their home in Gardner, Karen’s beloved convertible and began renovating their new home on the second floor and KRO’s on the Common restaurant on the first floor.

Terry has a Bachelor's Degree in accounting and has been with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections since 1992.  He is eager for retirement later this year, but in the meantime you’ll find him doing some landscaping of the property and greeting our guests! Maybe even in the kitchen!

Keith Goguen, Executive Chef

Keith Goguen.JPG

After dabbling in culinary school, Executive Chef Keith Goguen chose to soak up all his knowledge from chefs who mentored him in the kitchens in which he held jobs, from Bianco's Catering in Tyngsboro to Fortunado's in Lowell, and from The Bootlegger in Lunenburg to a job at Gibbet Hill Grill as a line cook in 2007. Keith, a Chelmsford native, blossomed at Gibbet Hill Grill and began helping out at The Barn at Gibbet Hill executing weddings and events. Shining in his new role at The Barn, he was soon promoted to sous chef, and eventually executive sous chef, where he worked alongside Karen for over 10 years.

Keith shows his creativity outside the kitchen as well, engaging in woodworking and making home goods from repurposed and salvaged materials. He also loves spending time with his wife and young daughter, enjoying the outdoors with activities like fishing, kayaking, and snowboarding.
